“Jesus was just a great moral teacher” and other misconceptions…Part 1
Thanks to Latoya’s comment to one of my posts i was reminded of another popularized misconception. This one is not coming from the outside but from within. Churches and church-goers are the ones being duped. It has to do with a misinterpretation of Psalm 2. Many prosperity teachers and charismatic teachers have been known to use Psalm 2:2 out of context. They simply shake off all criticism for their erroneous teachings by deeming themselves “Anointed”. Those trying to expose them for their falsehood are labeled as the conspirators pitting themselves against the “Anointed”. The following verses serve as a warning to those conspirators. What ensues is the preacher dropping curses on anybody who speaks against him(her) or his(her) ministry. What deceit!
Once again i must thank Latoya for her contribution to this site. Here is an example of the misconception and my response to it:
Latoya Says:
Wow how can you comfortably criticise a Man of God like that? It seems that’s all I’m seeing on this site, maybe I should find another area that’s not so bad.
You might not agree with them or nothing but to call their names out, ouch I’m scared for you, you must have never read Psalm 2.Daniel Says:
Hey Latoya. Unfortunately, the video can no longer be viewed. That would have helped a great deal and perhaps you would’ve understood why i criticized these people. I feel obligated to do so because these teachers are twisting scipture and presenting falsehood that is digested so easily by the masses. this is dangerous stuff. As for Psalm 2, i have read it and i would love to take another look at it.
1 Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”4 He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6 “As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”7 I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.This is a great psalm! It is reffering to David in the immediate and near context. But this psalm is ultimately about Jesus Christ. It is very messianic and prophetic in nature. It describes how the Father has entrusted the Son with his kingdom and made him king. The “Anointed” one is really Jesus. This psalm describes the hostility directed toward him by the people of earth and their leaders. Im sorry but no preacher is entitled to use this psalm and make himself the “Anointed” one mentioned in verse two. Many preachers use this verse out of context in order to elevate themselves above rebuke. I recommend that you read Daniel 7:13-14, it gives a description that is similar to this Psalm. Well, thats it! (for now i guess lol). Thank you for being completely honest. I really hope you understand what i have to say. Grace and Peace.

Good points. Any preacher that uses this as “protection” is just giving further reasons to question their authenticity. At a minimum they have misinterpreted that verse and are guilty of annointing themselves.

Great explanation. I like how you have the ability to explain complicated and doctrinal issues in layman’s terms.

Once again, Daniel the Theologian has knocked out the opposition LOL. Seriously, this has to be like the default mechanism for most false teachers – “They’re all ganging up on me, since I’m the Lord’s anointed.” Thanks for dealing with this issue, Bro!!!!!
