God is Sovereign…even in Super Bowls

New York Giants receiver David Tyree (85) catches a 32-yard ...

David Tyree, a New York Giants special teams player and wide receiver, caught the ball in arguably one of the greatest plays ever in the history of the NFL. Earlier in the 4th quarter when he caught a touchdown he lifted the ball and his head towards heaven, screaming into the camera “Its All God!” David Tyree had not caught a TD the whole season and saw minimal action. He also suffered from losing his mother in December. Being the unlikeliest person, he stepped up huge in the Super Bowl and helped the Giants become champions. Reporters and newspapers have always called Tyree a very religious man. In the post-game interview, he couldn’t help but talk about Jesus as his savior. Now the truth is that i personally don’t know this athlete, and for all i know he could have been giving lip-service to God the same way many celebrities do. But even if this is a lost man, God used him somehow to bring attention to himself. You may wonder what all of this has to with God and his Sovereignty. Sporting events such as the Super Bowl seem rather insignificant in terms of Jesus. But we must understand that God is orchestrating all things for his glory, not just in the cosmic sense but even in the molecular sense. And apart from all the other things God may have been doing lastnight, God was involved in one man’s life and used him to testify about himself.

For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen   -Romans 11:36
